Dance Consortium presents

Alvin Ailey Amercian Dance Theater

One of the world's favourite dance companies, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is coming back to Bradford for what promises to be another sell-out show.

What makes this phenomenal company so special is the incomparable sense of joy, freedom and spirit which both the audience and dancers share together. Alongside this is their exciting repertoire of breath-taking new productions and beloved Ailey classics, including the jubilant, soul-stirring signature piece, Revelations.

Under the Artistic Direction of Judith Jamison, who is celebrating her 20th anniversary this year, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater has become America's cultural ambassador to the world, promoting the uniqueness of the African-American cultural experience and the preservation and enrichment of the American modern dance tradition.

"They danced so brilliantly, and with such dazzling, throw-away insouciance, that you wanted them to do it again just as soon as they'd finished! - Evening Standard

"Each work is cheered from its first musical notes; every curtain call prompts a hollering, whistling standing ovation." - The Washington Post

REVELATIONS (1960)

Choreographed by Alvin Ailey

Alvin Ailey said that one of America’s richest treasures was the cultural heritage of the African American—“sometimes sorrowful, sometimes jubilant, but always hopeful.”  This enduring classic is a tribute to that heritage and to Ailey’s genius.  Using African American religious music--spirituals, song sermons and holy blues--this suite fervently explores the places of deepest grief and holiest joy in the soul.  This season the Company celebrates 50 years of Revelations, seen by more people around the world than any other modern dance.

ANOINTED (2010)

Choreographed by Christopher Huggins

"From the second it begins, with that gloriously musical and feline dancer Linda Celeste Sims teasing the similarly magnetic Jamar Roberts by dashing skittishly past him, to the turbo-charged climax, it makes you beam with pleasure.

As seamless as it is stirring.
An absolute, unqualified treat, and danced to perfection."
The Telegraph

HYMN (1993)

Choreographed by Judith Jamison

Judith Jamison’s stunning, Emmy Award-winning tribute to Alvin Ailey uses explosive, full company dances and quiet solos to illuminate Ailey’s humanity and the dancers’ unique qualities. Robert Ruggieri’s original score is interspersed with narrative recollections from past and present Ailey dancers, arranged by acclaimed actor/playwright Anna Deavere Smith.
