The Academy of St Martin in the Fields was founded in 1959 by Sir Neville Marriner, and spearheaded the 1960s baroque revival. From its beginnings as a small, conductor-less string group, it has grown to encompass many different formations - from chamber group to classical-sized orchestra. What remains unchanged is that Academy players are drawn from the cream of musical talent, producing a richness of sound and virtuosic skill recognised the world over. As with the main Orchestra, the Academy's Chamber Ensemble has an extensive touring schedule which takes them to every part of the globe including the USA, Germany, Italy, Spain and Holland.
