Further info
On this occasion the European Union Chamber Orchestra brings the highly-praised Russian pianist Nikolai Demidenko, now resident in the United Kingdom, as soloist. He takes the solo part in one of Mozart's most delightful piano concertos, No 9, known as the Jeunehomme after the pianist for which it was originally composed. The Viennese connection is maintained with Haydn's vigorous Symphony No 59, known as the Fire Symphony. Two works for strings alone complete the programme: Peter Warlock's sprightly Capriol Suite and Liszt's reflective Angelus, inspired by the ringing of the Angelus bells which the composer heard while living in Rome.
