The orchestra is the distinguished Moscow State Symphony Orchestra, playing under its Musical Director Pavel Kogan - a combination that is simply unbeatable in Russian music. Tchaikovsky's Fifth Symphony is one of his most successful works, with unforgettable melodies and a truly grand orchestral sweep. The soloist in Rachmaninov's scintillating Paganini Rhapsody is the exciting young pianist from the Ukraine, Igor Tchetuev, winner of Arthur Rubinstein Competition. The concert opens with the orgiastic Polovtsian Dances from Borodin's opera, Prince Igor.
