Marking the centenary of the First World War, this new dramatisation of Pat Barker's unforgettable Booker-nominated novel is adapted by Olivier award-winning playwright Nicholas Wright(His Dark Materials, Vincent in Brixton).

"I am making this statement as an act of willful defiance of military authority, because I believe the war is being deliberately prolonged by those who have the power to end it"

Craiglockhart War Hospital, Scotland 1917. Poet and soldier Siegfried Sassoon has been institutionalised in an attempt to undermine his public disapproval of the war. His Army Psychiatrist, Dr William Rivers, has been tasked with returning shell-shocked officers to the trenches, yet under Sassoon's influence, has become tormented by the morality of what is being done in the name of medicine.

Reminding us that some of the most touching of friendships are borne from the most brutal of conflicts, Regeneration is a compassionate look at war and its devastating effects: a powerful anthem for the youth of WW1.

"A brilliant novel. Intense and subtle" Sunday Times

"One of the most interesting novelists of her generation" Guardian on Pat Barker

Regeneration will be directed by Simon Godwin. Associate Director of the Royal Court and an Associate Artist at Bristol Old Vic, Simon was nominated for an Evening Standard Award for Best Newcomer for his direction of Wanderlust at the Royal Court in 2010 and won the Burberry Award for an emerging director at the Evening Standard Awards in 2012.  Last year he directed Anne Marie Duff in 'Strange Interlude' at the National Theatre and makes his debut at the RSC this year directing The Two Gentlemen of Verona.

The third play in a series of five plays brought to us by  The Touring Consortium (To Sir With Love, Brassed Off).
