Further info
Bizet's incidental music to the play The Girl From Arles conjures up all the heat and atmosphere of the South of France. Richard Strauss's late Duet Concertino for Clarinet and Bassoon continues the autumnal richness found in his Oboe Concerto and immortal Four Last Songs, while giving the two soloists an opportunity to demonstrate their individual virtuosity. Antonin Dvorˇák was greatly admired by no less a composer than Brahms, and his Seventh Symphony, which received its first European performance in Vienna after its London premiere, is generally considered to be the finest of his glorious nine symphonies.
