Frequently Asked Questions by Friends

Why do I get a discount on some shows and not for others at the Alhambra ?

We try to offer standard discounts on tickets for all shows at the Alhambra.  However, some production companies hire the venue from us and therefore they set the ticket prices and have full control over what discounts are offered.  This means that sometimes discounts are only available during mid-week performances; or no discounts are available at all.  On these occasions we do hold a number of best seats aside for Friends to purchase.

Why do I get a discount on some shows and not for others at St George’s Hall ?

Again, we cannot offer discounts for productions run by companies hiring the venue.  This happens more frequently with the type of productions that tend to take place at St George’s Hall.  However, we always put a number of best seats on reserve for Friends to purchase.

If I am a Concessionary Friend, what ticket discounts am I entitled to ?

You get the Friends discount off two tickets, plus any usual concessions that either you or the other person you are buying the ticket for are eligible to receive.  If you are bringing someone who isn't eligible for a concession as your 'plus one' then you would only get the Friends discount off the 'plus one' ticket.  But if you are bringing someone who is entitled to a concession, then you will be able to use that concessionary discount as well, on top of the Friends discount.

For example, if you want to buy 2 tickets to the ballet for yourself and your grandchild: you can get £2.50 off both tickets (Friends discount), plus £2.50 off both tickets (over 60 and an under 16).  Therefore you make a fantastic saving of £5 on each ticket.  Instead of 2 tickets costing you the full price of £40, it only costs you £30 to come to the ballet and you can make this kind of great saving on most shows!

How long do I get to book my tickets before they go on sale to the general public ?

For shows at the Alhambra, we aim to give you a one-week priority booking period before we put tickets on sale to the general public.  When it is not possible to give you a week’s priority booking period due to the speed at which some companies want to put shows on sale, we will reserve a number of best seats for Friends to purchase.  You will receive notification of shows going on sale in a newsletter.

Due to the high turnover of one night shows at St George’s Hall, it isn’t possible to give you a priority booking period for you to purchase your tickets.  We will, however, put a number of best seats on reserve for Friends to purchase. You will receive notification in a newsletter.

Can I get a discount on drinks at the Alhambra and St George’s Hall ?

Yes, there is a 20% discount available on post-show drinks only at the bars in both venues.  Present your membership card at the bar when ordering your post-show drinks. You and your ‘plus one’ will get 20% of your drinks (20% off a maximum of 2 drinks)

Can I get a discount on food at the Alhambra and St George’s Hall ?

Yes, you can get a 20% discount on food only at the Alhambra Carvery and at the Bistro at St George’s Hall.  Just present your membership card at time of ordering or paying your food bill. You and your ‘plus one’ will get 20% of your meals (20% off a maximum of 2 meals)

Where else can I get discounts in Bradford?

There are a number of outlets where you can get discounts, ranging from restaurants, bars and museums.  Please refer to the separate Discounts document in your membership pack for full information on these outlets and what discount is available at each one. Just present your membership card to receive the relevant discount.

How do I renew my membership ?

You will receive a renewal reminder approximately 1 month before the expiry date of your membership.  At this point, please call the Box Office on 01274 432000 to make your payment over the phone using a debit or credit card; or you can send a cheque in the post.  You will then receive a confirmation of your renewal, together with a new membership card.

As a Premium Friend, what ticket discounts am I entitled to ?

You are entitled to get the Friends discount off two tickets, plus any usual concessions that either you or the other person you are buying the ticket for are eligible to receive.  If you are bringing someone who isn't eligible for a concession as your 'plus one' then you would only get the Friends discount off the 'plus one' ticket.  But if you are someone who is entitled to a concession, then you will be able to use that concessionary discount as well, on top of the Friends discount.

As a Premium Friend, why do I receive a free programme for some shows but not for others ?

We offer you “house programmes” for the majority of shows at the Alhambra Theatre – this means programmes we have produced ourselves.  However, some production companies hire the Alhambra and therefore produce their own programmes.  We do our very best to negotiate with the companies to have these programmes available for you but this is not always possible.
Programmes are generally not available for the one-night shows at St George’s Hall due to the nature of agreements with the promoters and production companies.

How often do you run backstage tours for Premium Friends ?

We offer backstage tours at the Alhambra Theatre on an ad-hoc basis.  We are unable to run regular tours due to access restrictions to backstage areas when some shows are with us.  On occasion, we can offer tours when we have a show in residency with us for several weeks and you will be able to go onto the stage to see the set, costumes, props and talk to members of the company (if available).  Other tours are held during periods of time when we have no shows in the theatre – you will then get to visit areas such as dressing rooms, as well as the stage and green room.

Recently we introduced backstage tours at St George’s Hall.  These have proved very popular and we plan to continue to offer these tours on an ad-hoc basis – again, this depends on what shows we have scheduled in at the venue and access to relevant areas of the venue.

What sort of launch events can I get invited to as a Premium Friend ?

On ad-hoc occasions, we also hold launch events for shows at the Alhambra.  These events are usually a preview of what the show is about and you will get the opportunity to meet cast members (where available).  Places are always limited for launch events and are allocated on a first-come first-served basis.
