Classical... contemporary... a candy kingdom and a kitchen sink

This Spring Bradford Theatres present a diverse season of Dance from a selection of the best international dance companies touring this season across our venues The Alhambra Theatre, St George's Hall and The Studio.

Adam Renton, General Manager Bradford Theatres say:

"Over recent years we've brought some of the world's leading dance companies to Bradford and this is something we'll continue to do.  We pride ourselves on providing quality entertainment and our Dance season this Spring features an array of engaging productions.  Whether you're new to dance or a dance enthusiast there is something for everyone and it's great that we'll be showcasing the best in dance across 3 of our Bradford Theatres venues. I hope you can join us."

The season gets off to an electrifying start with Blanca Li Dance Company Elektro Kif on Sunday 19 February at the Alhambra Theatre.   This dance show is about the hopes and fears, friendships, fights and rivalries of an all male cast of eight exceptional young electro dancers.  Blanca Li combines the urban streetdance style 'electro', a dazzling mix of breaking, disco, vogue, popping and locking, off the streets of Paris, and mixes it up with some theatre, contemporary dance and an amazing soundtrack.  There is a free post show talk after the performance with members of the company.

From the streets to the kitchen sink, make some noise for Stomp which stops off at the Alhambra Theatre from Tuesday 21 - Saturday 25 February.  With new routines, choreography and music - this show is not be missed!  This breath-taking show has thrilled audiences around the world. With its unique combination of theatre, dance, comedy and percussion, eight performers use boots, bins, brooms and everything including the kitchen sink to hammer out an explosively feel good rhythm.

For the more traditional dance lover, we're delighted to welcome back Moscow City Ballet with their classical interpretation of Romeo & Juliet.  This is probably one of the world's best known love stories which follows the tragic fate of the star-crossed teenage lovers.  Set to Prokofiev's dramatic score, Victor Smirniv-Golovanov's staging captures all of the hustle and bustle as Renaissance Verona is brought to life in this powerful production at St George's Hall on Tuesday 13 & Wednesday 14 March

With their winning combination of youthful exuberance and astonishing athleticism, Nederlands Dans Theater 2 return to the Alhambra Theatre as part of a limited UK tour on Tuesday 27 & Wednesday 28 March.  None of the dancers are older than 23, yet they fill the stage with feats of virtuoso dancing:  jumping higher and spinning faster than seems possible. They use their young bodies in beautiful ways, expressing emotions and feelings way beyond their years and experience.  Don't miss this world class contemporary dance company when they're in Bradford.    There is a free post show talk after the performance on Tuesday 27 March with members of the company.  Workshops available.  Please call the Box Office for more information.

With one of the most popular dance productions ever staged in the UK, Matthew Bourne's Nutcracker! is back at the only Yorkshire venue on the tour for a week of delightful dance at the Alhambra Theatre from Tuesday 3 - Saturday 7 April.  This delicious theatrical feast has family-sized helpings of Matthew Bourne's trademark wit, pathos and magical fantasy. Nutcracker! follows Clara's bittersweet journey from an hilariously bleak Christmas Eve at Dr. Dross' Orphanage, through a shimmering, ice-skating winter wonderland to the scrumptious candy kingdom of Sweetieland. Tchaikovsky's glorious score and Anthony Ward's unforgettable sets and costumes combine with sizzling choreography to create a fresh and charmingly irreverent interpretation of the traditional favourite.

Verve 12, the postgraduate company of The Northern School of Contemporary Dance will be in The Studio on Wednesday 25 & Thursday 26 April with an energetic and athletic programme of innovative dance, performed by some of Europe's most talented young dancers.  Selected from choreography by Akram Khan, Lea Anderson, James Cousins, Milan Kozanek and Jordan Massarella, Verve promises a dynamic and engaging performance not to be missed!

The stars of BBC TV's Strictly Come Dancing take to the stage at St George's Hall on Friday 27 April.  Join Katya Virshilas and Pasha Kovalev for an evening of exhibition dance routines, featuring the Rumba, Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Jive and many more!  Audiences will also have the chance to put their questions to Katya and Pasha and find out what really goes on behind the scenes of the hit BBC TV show! Plus the rare opportunity to join the cast on stage in their very own fun, strictly Dance competition.  Together with exhilarating routines, audience participation, Katya and Pasha in conversation and video highlights, this promises to be a night of world class dance to remember.

Dance audiences can also take advantage of the Spring Sale by purchasing tickets for three shows for £50.  This fantastic package was launched in January and is available across any three shows in the spring season at Bradford's award-winning Alhambra Theatre.
