Bradford Theatres shortlisted for a prestigious regional award
Bradford Theatres have been shortlisted for a prestigious regional Tourism Award. Now in its 21st year, the White Rose Awards, run by tourism agency Welcome to Yorkshire, is widely recognised as the most spectacular tourism event of the year.
The Awards, a celebration of excellence in the tourism industry, has a shortlist boasting 71 of Yorkshire's best attractions, hotels, venues and individuals from the tourism industry. The list covers 15 categories ranging from Visitor Attraction of the Year and Taste of Yorkshire Award, to Sustainable Tourism Award and Yorkshire Pub of the Year.
Bradford Theatres were shortlisted for the Access For All category along with only one other organisation, The Yorkshire Waterways Museum, Goole.
Adam Renton, General Manager Bradford Theatres, says:
"Being nominated as a finalist for the Access For All award reflects Bradford Theatres' achievements in customer care and the fact that access is at the heart of our organisation. We focus heavily on the training of our staff and building the quality of their relationships with customers, as well as the ongoing improvement of services for customers with special needs, which ensures that all patrons receive a consistently warm and professional welcome.
I personally started and attend our disabled users group; our front of house staff offer a warm welcome and extra assistance during performances; and our marketing team communicate with customers with suitable print formats such as large print, CDs and Braille.
We have overcome many of the physical restrictions of our historical buildings, providing access for wheelchair users and hearing enhancement systems. We lead the way with our varied programme of signed, captioned, audio described performances and touch tours. All staff get access awareness training and we've invested in qualified in house captioners and BSL users.
Our aim is always to exceed expectations in providing a high-quality service to the public, visiting production companies and our partners. It's very rewarding to learn that our efforts in doing this have been recognised at a regional level."
Councillor Anne Hawkesworth, Executive Member for Environment and Culture comments:
"I'm delighted that the Alhambra Theatre and St. George's Hall have been shortlisted for this award and that the assets of Bradford Theatres have been recognised on a regional level. I am very proud of the hard work that has been put in by all the staff working for both venues.
The fact that Bradford Theatres have been shortlisted for this award shows that our efforts to move forward and continuously improve our services are being recognised throughout the district and beyond."
The Awards ceremony will be held at the Royal Armouries in Leeds on 19 October when Bradford Theatres and all the other finalists will find out if they've been successful.
