The 2013/14 Bradford International orchestral season at St George's Hall celebrating 160 years 1853 -2013

The 2013/14 orchestral season at Bradford's magnificent St George's Hall, brings together three top international orchestras, Britain's own leading symphony orchestra, the Hallé and the European Union Chamber Orchestra in seven memorable concerts.

Adam Renton General Manager Bradford Theatres, says:
"St George's Hall celebrates 160 years, having been officially opened on 29 August 1853. What better way to open the new season than with a concert from our resident orchestra, the Hallé, conducted by Sir Mark Elder with special guest soloist, our Patron Lesley Garrett."

Our resident orchestra, the Hallé, opens our 2013/14 season with a magnificent concert full of drama and melody. Led by Sir Mark Elder with special guest soloist, our patron Lesley Garrett.

Lesley Garrett Patron, Bradford International Orchestral Concert Season, says:
"Last year I was honoured to be asked by St George's Hall to be Patron of the Bradford International Orchestral Season 2012/13. I am delighted that they have kindly honoured me once again by asking if I would extend my patronage to include the forthcoming season, 2013/14. Of course I immediately said yes! St George's Hall in Bradford is one of the UK's greatest concert halls and I always jump at the chance to experience its magnificent acoustic as both performer and audience member. This year I am particularly excited to have the privilege of opening the 2013/14 season with the North of England's pre-eminent orchestra, the Hallé; conducted by their music director and my good friend Sir Mark Elder."

The first international visitors of the season are the highly regarded Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra of Moscow Radio, who start the evening off with a Tchaikovsky rarity, his delightful Souvenir de Florence.

We welcome back Peter Altrichter, a regular visitor to St George's Hall since he was Music Director of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic. He returns as conductor with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra and the great Japanese piano virtuoso, Noriko Ogawa.

The Vienna Tonküstler Orchestra completes the line-up of international orchestras this season. We're very fortunate to have these distinguished visitors from Vienna with their talented young Colombian conductor Andres Orozco-Estrada.

The Hallé return in January with their annual New Year celebration concert, under the experienced baton of conductor Wyn Davies, with tenor soloist Rafael Rojas. The Orchestra will play a selection of the best loved waltzes, polkas and mazurkas by members of the Strauss family including The Land of Smiles, Tales from the Vienna Woods, Die Fledermaus, Where the Lemon Trees Bloom and one or two surprises.

Great British cellist Julian Lloyd Webber returns to Bradford with his wife Jiaxin to perform with The European Union Orchestra and our 2013/14 season ends with Cristian Mandeal conducting the Hallé in three Slavic masterpieces.

Sir Mark Elder Hallé Music Director, adds:
"It is always a pleasure to return to Bradford with its wonderful hall. The relationship between the Hallé and your city reaches back over a century to the era of Charles Hallé himself, and is something the players and I are particularly proud of. We are delighted this year to open the International Orchestral Concert Season, and to be able to bring your Season's Patron, Lesley Garrett, with us. We hope you enjoy our opening programme, and the other concerts throughout the year."

Bradford Theatres are proud to present Bradford's long established chamber music season, now in its 26th year in the beautiful surroundings of Bradford Cathedral. Our seven concert Chamber series at Bradford Cathedral opens on Friday 20 September with the exceptionally gifted pianist Freddy Kempf and closes in May 2014 with another critically acclaimed pianist, Melvyn Tan who is joined by cellist Guy Johnston.

Tickets for all orchestral and chamber concerts go on general sale on Monday 1 July, with subscriptions still available to buy. Subscriptions offer concertgoers up to 20% discount, tickets to a free recital with The English Piano Trio, entry in to a free prize draw to win tickets and overnight accommodation to a choice of concert from a selection across the UK and two free tickets to give to a relative, friend or neighbour who is new to classical music as part of the Pass It On Scheme.
