More cast announced for West Yorkshire's biggest Panto!
Following the news that X Factor star Chico will join the king of Bradford pantomime, Billy Pearce in Aladdin at the Alhambra Theatre this Christmas, further casting has now been revealed by the show's producer Qdos Entertainment.
Established pantomime dame and musical theatre actor, Adam Stafford, will take on the role of Widow Twankey. Adam's West End credits include playing Amos Hart in Chicago, Sir Bedevere in Spamalot, and Gangster in The Drowsey Chaperone.
Japanese-born singer, actor and musician, Masashi Fujimoto, will play the role of The Emperor. Masashi is well-known to UK television audiences having starred in three series of the award-winning Channel 4 programme Banzai, playing Mr Banzai. Masashi's impressive repertoire of opera performances across Europe are complemented by his unique brand of comedy performance, including in BBC2's Roman's Empire as Mr Hokkasawa, BBC cartoon Things Talk as Voice of Television, BBC comedy Schizo Samurai Shitzu as master, and Channel 4 comedy Beehive as The General.
The hilarious acrobatic troupe The Acromaniacs will play the roles of The Chinese Policemen. This fast and funny slapstick acrobatic company have become one of Britain's top speciality acts making no less than five successive appearances on the BBC's Children's Royal Variety Performance. The group's use of trampette, box and crash mat has to be seen to be believed - split-second timing was never more important!
Michael Harrison, managing director of Qdos Entertainment and executive producer of Aladdin said
"This year's pantomime is already shaping up to be one of the biggest we've produced in Bradford, and today's casting announcement is the next stage in preparing for what will be another unmissable Alhambra Theatre pantomime. We are also working with The Twins FX again this year to incorporate some spectacular effects into the show, which will include a fabulous genie and a very magical flying carpet!"
Adam Renton, Bradford Theatres General Manager says:
"It's testament to the quality of pantomimes at the Alhambra Theatre that people maintain the tradition of coming back year after year to see what we have to offer. Since 1914, when the theatre opened, Alhambra pantos have been an essential part of the Festive Season in Bradford and this year, audiences are in for another fabulous show."
Press quotes from last year's Cinderella
"With a set bursting with colour, morphing from a winter wonderland to a Viennese style ballroom, this is a fabulous feelgood family show." Telegraph & Argus 19 Dec 12
***** (five stars) "With its breathtaking sets, lavish costumes and some startling special effects, Cinderella can only be described as magical." Yorkshire Post 4 Jan 13
Aladdin is produced by Qdos Entertainment, the world's largest pantomime producer, who will produce 24 pantomimes across the UK this Christmas.
