The 15th Alhambra Summer Project commences

The 15th Alhambra Summer Project, run by the Alhambra Theatre in partnership with West Yorkshire Police, commenced this week and runs until 17 September.  Secondary school students from Bradford Schools will spend five weeks at The Alhambra Studio devising a piece of 'issue based' theatre which will be performed at The Alhambra Studio in the final week for year 7 & 8 pupils from schools across Bradford.

Participants in the project face a challenging few weeks as they explore ideas and facts around anti social behaviour, develop their team working skills and finally devise and perform a theatre piece based on their research and ideas.

Councillor the Reverend Paul Flowers says, "This will be the 15th year that the Alhambra Summer Project will take place and I am extremely pleased we have reached this milestone for the project.  The participants gain a huge amount of self confidence, self worth, new skills and the knowledge that they have taken part in a unique experience.  Their participation in a scheme which requires commitment and dedication can be a plus point with employers and when applying for further education."

 Some quotes from participants on past projects;

"...acting is not about showing off, but teamwork.  The most important thing that I have learnt is to work for each other instead of taking to centre stage".

"Thanks to working on this project I have learnt more new skills and have more confidence inside me than ever."

The project is a partnership between Bradford Theatres and West Yorkshire Police and is supported by The Co-operative.
