Autumn 2016 Season Announcement

We are not wishing the summer away… and why would we with the award-winning musical Wicked casting its magical spell across Bradford this July and August. We are equally excited about our autumn season with dance, drama, music, comedy and musicals to suit all tastes.

Some highlights include The Glenn Miller Story starring music legend Tommy Steele, global superstar Gilbert O’Sullivan and Northern Ballet's latest ballet for children Tortoise & the Hare at the Alhambra Theatre. At King’s Hall, Ilkley; Steeleye Span, The Simon & Garfunkel Story and an evening with Monty Don. Comedy fans should definitely visit our newly refreshed Studio with Dane Baptiste, Paul Foot and Jerry Sadowitz all making appearances. For classical music lovers the 29th Bradford Chamber Season continues from September in the beautiful Bradford Cathedral.   Adam Renton, General Manager Bradford Theatres says:  ‘We have enjoyed a very dynamic and exhilarating time so far during 2016 at Bradford Theatres. We’re sure that the remainder of the year will be just as exciting for everyone.  Our city centre venue, St George’s Hall, closed temporarily in Spring for renovation work. While the venue is undergoing refurbishment, some of our popular one night events will be presented at the Alhambra Theatre instead, including: Ken Dodd, Jimmy Carr and Halfway To Paradise – The Billy Fury Story. You can also continue to enjoy the best in dance and drama at the Alhambra Theatre, with return visits from Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Northern Ballet and Touring Consortium Theatre Company. Later in the year, our trilogy of long running musicals for 2016 culminates with Mary Poppins; and as ever, the festive season is graced by our annual pantomime, this year it isPeter Pan’  SeptemberBasil & Co The Comedy Dinner Show - Friday 2 & Saturday 3 September, Restaurant 1914 at The Alhambra Theatre.  Entertainment by Laughlines Comedy Entertainment. A fabulous evening hosted by Basil Fawlty, his long-suffering wife Sybil and their confused but loyal waiter Manuel. The all-star line-up will include new works by some of today’s most acclaimed choreographers, as well as Ailey classics including the beloved crowd-pleaser Revelations, the most widely-seen modern dance work in the world. Interweaving one family’s intensely personal drama with the terror and chaos of the French Revolution, it is an epic story of love, sacrifice and redemption amidst horrific violence and world changing events. Share in the passion and stolen moments of the world’s most famous young lovers, and get swept up in the heartbreak as the tragedy of their world consumes them.  Northern Ballet: Tortoise & the Hare – Friday 14 October, Alhambra Theatre  Following the successes of Ugly Duckling, Three Little Pigs and Elves and the Shoemaker and the TV adaptations for CBeebies, Northern Ballet bring their magic to Tortoise & the Hare.  Alauda Quartet – Friday 14 October, Bradford Cathedral - Part of Bradford International Classical Concert Season 2016/17: Bradford 29th Chamber Season  Dane Baptiste: Reasonable Doubts - Saturday 15 October, The Studio Original, provocative and exceptionally prolific, Dane Baptiste is already being hailed as one of the most exciting comic talents to break in years. (Recommended age 16+)  Shane Filan: Right Here Tour 2016 - Monday 17 October, Alhambra Theatre Westlife front-man Shane Filan joins us this season to extend the huge success of Right Here 2016 The Tour. Following the release of the Right Here album, the Irish pop sensation will perform Westlife favourites as well as his own recent tracks from the album.  Steeleye Span In Concert with Maddy Prior - Tuesday 18 October, King’s Hall, Ilkley  Halfway to Paradise - The Billy Fury Story - Wednesday 19 October, Alhambra Theatre  Featuring the sensational Colin Gold as Billy Fury with the original Fury’s Tornados  Gilbert O’Sullivan In Concert - Thursday 20 October, Alhambra Theatre  A global superstar who topped the UK and US charts with the likes of Alone Again (Naturally) and Get Down, Gilbert O’Sullivan is an artist who has never rested on his laurels. His songs have been covered by Neil Diamond amongst others.
