Access Scheme
Bradford Theatres' Access Scheme recognises that some customers need additional assistance to enjoy the services within our venues.
Access Scheme members are entitled to a free Essential Companion ticket, and are eligible to receive best position seats for our Access performances, including wheelchair spaces.
Wheelchair Access
Alhambra Theatre
6 wheelchair spaces
There is an accessible entrance to the theatre on Great Horton Road - cars may drop off customers directly outside of this entrance. Wheelchair spaces are located at the back of stalls, on the right-hand side. There is a lift to all floors of the theatre.
St George's Hall
12 wheelchair spaces
There is a drop off point in the layby outside the venue with easy access to the ramp to Stalls level. For customers with physical access needs coming to St George’s Hall please note there is no lift access to the Dress Circle and Grand Tier - the lift only operates to the Stalls Level.
The Studio
5 wheelchair spaces
The accessible entrance is via Great Horton Road. Cars may drop off customers outside of the entrance to The Studio. Wheelchair spaces are located in the first row.
King's Hall and Winter Gardens
6 wheelchair spaces
Wheelchair access is available via a ramp from the pavement outside the venue and close to the disabled parking bays. There is a lift from the ground floor of Winter Garden to the balcony and bar level.
Parking
Designated parking spaces for Blue Badge holders are available on Morley Street and Great Horton Road for customers coming to the Alhambra Theatre and The Studio, and in front of the main entrance of The Queen's Hotel on Bridge Street for St George's Hall.
Please access the Morley Street spaces using Great Horton Road at the side of the theatre. There is a bollard system which will check your Blue Badge and allow access round the front of the theatre to the parking bays on Morley Street. Cars may drop off customers outside of the venue entrance, but must park in a Blue Badge holder bay.
Spaces are limited and are on a first come, first served basis, and may be used by patrons of other local venues - we recommend you arrive and park early.
Access Assisted Performances
There are sign language interpreted performances, audio described performances and captioned performances at stated shows. The auditorium at the Alhambra Theatre is equipped with infra-red audio system. This enables patrons to independently control the level of volume required wherever they sit in the auditorium. Headsets are available on request.
Captioned performances
We offer captioned performances for some shows. Captioning is similar to television subtitling and gives deaf, deafened or hard of hearing people access to live performance. The actors' words appear on display units at each side of the stage at the same time as they are spoken or sung. A qualified captioner operates the captions as the action happens on stage so it can be read by hard of hearing attenders at the same time as the actors are saying the words on stage.
Sign language interpreted performances
We offer sign language interpreted performances for some shows. A signed performance is the usual full production with the addition of a Sign Language Interpreter who stands on or near the stage interpreting the show for deaf attenders.
Audio described performances
We offer audio description for some shows. Audio Described performances are designed to improve the experience of visually impaired and blind attenders. As well as listening to the dialogue on stage the visually impaired customer wears a headset and listens to a live description of the action on stage. The description only happens in between dialogue and supplements the voices of the performers in explaining the emotions and action of each scene. Touch Tours are available to support audio described performances – please ask for more information when booking your tickets.
Assistance dogs are welcome at our venues.
Access to Information
Our brochures are available in large print, Braille and on audio CD. Programmes for some shows can be made available in large print, Braille and on audio CD but you will need to ask us for them at least two weeks before the performance you want to come to.
