Cast Announced for Alhambra Theatre's Giant Pantomime

The Alhambra Theatre in Bradford has announced the headline cast for its forthcoming pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk.  The line-up will be led by the king of Yorkshire pantomime Billy Pearce (as Jack) who returns to the theatre for his seventeenth Christmas season.  Joining Billy on stage are television and stage stars Lisa Riley as The Spirit of the Beans, John Challis as Fleshcreep and Jake Canuso in the role of The Broadbean!

Billy Pearce, the ever-popular Yorkshireman and multi-award-winning comedian, has won just about every comedy accolade going, including a British Comedy Award, Solo Comedian of the Year, Best Television Comedy Newcomer, and most recently, he was presented with the Arts and Entertainment Award at the Yorkshire Awards.  Billy has performed in five children’s Royal Variety Shows and three Royal Variety Shows and is currently touring the UK with his stand-up show Funny Guy.

Lisa Riley entertained millions during her ten weeks in the 2013 series of Strictly Come Dancing with her dance partner Robin Windsor.  She first became a household name in the role of Mandy Dingle in Emmerdale, a part she played for over seven years, winning numerous awards including Most Popular Newcomer, Funniest Person in Soap and Most Popular Young Achiever.  She has also starred in Fat Friends, You’ve Been Framed and has appeared in countless other television programmes including The Bill, Waterloo Road, Doctors and Holby City.  Her stage roles have been as successful and varied as those she has played on television.  She has starred in productions of Calendar Girls, The Rise & Fall of Little Voice, Waiting for Gateaux, The Play What I Wrote and The Naked Truth, to name but a few.

John Challis’s theatre and television work spans fifty years, initially in theatre with companies including the Royal Shakespeare Company and National Theatre.  His television career has seen him play the hugely-popular character Boycie in both Only Fools and Horses and then in his own spin-off series The Green Green Grass, which ran for four years.

Jake Canuso is best known for his role as Mateo in the hugely-successful ITV comedy series Benidorm. Jake's other television credits include Splash!, Hustle, Shameless, The Hour and Bad Education.  He has continued to make his name appearing in films such as Nine with Daniel Day Lewis and Judi Dench, and The Dark Knight Rises.

Jack and the Beanstalk will be staged by Qdos Entertainment, the world's largest pantomime producer. Featuring more comedy than you can shake a bag of magic beans at, a huge beanstalk and one very mean giant at the top of it, and with ticket prices to suit all pockets, you won’t have to sell the family cow to enjoy spectacular pantomime at the Alhambra Theatre.
