Tickets went on sale today (Monday 17 February) for two exclusive performances of the spectacular and magical new ballet, choreographed by Olivier award-winning Drew McOnie.

Merlin will sweep audiences away on an epic adventure as the world’s most famous sorcerer discovers how to master his magic to unite a warring kingdom. Inspired by the story of the mythical wizard, Merlin embarks on a journey of self-discovery where our hero encounters heartbreak, humour and brings more than a little magic.

Merlin is the second full-length world première of Northern Ballet’s 50th anniversary year following next month’s world première of Geisha in Leeds. Merlin will be the first Northern Ballet production choreographed by Drew McOnie whose previous credits include King Kong on Broadway and Baz Luhrmann’s Strictly Ballroom The Musical. It will be performed to an original score by Grant Olding (One Man Two Guvnors, National Theatre), played live at every performance by Northern Ballet Sinfonia.

The sets and costumes are designed by Colin Richmond (Grease, UK Tour) and lighting is by Anna Watson (A Christmas Carol, Bristol Old Vic). In addition, Chris Fisher, International Illusions and Magic Associate on Harry Potter & the Cursed Child has been appointed as Illusionist for Merlin.

Merlin will première in Bradford followed by a national tour to Norwich, Southampton, Woking and Leeds until December 2020. For more information visit northernballet.com/merlin
