This year there are more than 175 venues across the country competing to take home the coveted title with the 12 Regional and National winners of the vote announced on Friday 29 September 2017. The overall winner of the award will be announced at the UK Theatre Awards on Sunday 15 October. This is an opportunity for audiences to celebrate their local theatre.
The Alhambra Theatre, the vision of Francis Laidler, a local impresario and theatre manager, was officially opened on 18 March 1914. In 2014 Bradford Theatres celebrated the Alhambra Theatre’s centenary, culminating in a gala evening A Night of Variety starring Britain’s leading musical theatre star, Michael Ball.
Renowned for offering a great range of top quality entertainment in a superb setting, the Alhambra Theatre also prides itself in maintaining a high standard of customer service. In 2016 we welcomed a trio of long-running international musicals with Billy Elliot the Musical, Wicked and Mary Poppins. The 2017 season has been a mix of fantastic musicals, brand new dramas and a welcome return of Matthew Bourne with the intoxicating The Red Shoes.
Adam Renton, General Manager Bradford Theatres comments:
“At Bradford Theatres we excel at making customer visits to our beautiful venue as enjoyable as possible. To put it quite simply we care about our customers’ experience and love to extend our warm Yorkshire hospitality to everyone who walks through our doors.
We aim to make a visit to the Alhambra Theatre as memorable as possible by meeting and exceeding our customers’ expectations. This award recognises the quality of customer care provided in entertainment venues across the UK; we hope, with the help of the Yorkshire public, that our endeavours here at the Alhambra Theatre will be recognised.”
The UK Theatre Awards are the only nationwide Awards to honour outstanding achievement in theatre throughout the United Kingdom. This year's ceremony will again take place at London's historic Guildhall.
Julian Bird, Chief Executive, UK Theatre, says:
“Most Welcoming Theatre is a chance for audiences to celebrate their local theatre and for venues to shout about the incredible work they are doing day in day out. Theatres are the backbone of communities across the country and this campaign highlights the vital work they do”
